"Creating a monster" (1986) is, after four proceeding albums - "Doomsday" (1979), "War" (1980), "Victim of chains" (1984) and "Back to attack" (1985) - the masterpiece of GRAVESTONE´s opus. Apart from the unforgettable titlesong, "The end of our love" was a song you could hear in every disco between Stuttgart and Munich in those days. A lot of songs from this album were put on samplers because of their unique quality. "Creating a monster" is a German Heavy Metal-classic, now for the first time completely digitally remastered.
If you listen to the bonustracks on this album, which were recorded on a later album under the bandname 48 CRASH, you will see that the band turned to a more commercial kind of music, which wasn´t that bad, but had developed very far from the melodic but hard material on "Creating a monster". So the band had "developed" its musical style, but sadly into the wrong direction, which might have been the reason why GRAVESTONE never really were that successful.
The 48 CRASH-production was made with a lot of money, according to guitarist Doc Reinelt, but this was at that time no guarantee for success (in contrast to today, if you think of the countless and talentless teenie-superstar-bands). GRAVESTONE´s fans simply had expected different stuff from them.
So, a very important band, which had enrichened the German metal-scene in the eighties (apart from other bands like STORMWITCH, NOISEHUNTER, STRANGER, STAINLESS STEEL, BLACK FATE, MIDNIGHT DARKNESS or VETO), disappeared almost without a trace. They had brought German metal to the notice of many people, but sadly they never were as successful as you might have expected. In those times, everything was a bit less professional, a bit less "trendy" and after all not so dependent on promotion.
