Album Notes

Gravity Willing is:
Nick de Sieyes: Vocals, Acoustic & Electric Guitars
Sam Kearney: Electric Guitars, Vocals
Ben Bromley: Keyboards, Vocals
Ross Simonini: Bass Guitars
James Sutton: Drums & Percussion

The final, faith-questioning thoughts of a dying Crusader; the deafening silence of a sleepless night; Hades' summertime heartache for Persephone; these are a few of the themes behind the music of Gravity Willing, who have since fall 2000 brought their fresh "power pop laced with alternative rock" (as described by AudioGalaxy.com) to the Santa Barbara scene. The variety of themes presented in the music is reflected by the various musical histories of the band members: the solo folk past of Nick de Sieyes, Sam Kearney's Bay Area punk years, the indie-rock background of Ben Bromley, Ross Simonini's years of jazz guitar and study of orchestral composition, and the prog-rock percussion foundation of James Sutton. These influences pervade the music of Requia, the band's emotional debut. While the band is young (four of the five are under 22), critics have met the October 2001 release with rave reviews (see attached press sheet). With an eclectic and at times progressive rock/pop hybrid sound that is reminiscent of Dave Matthews and Pearl Jam and yet all their own at the same time, the distinctly improvisational style of their live performances has built the group a fiercely loyal and ever-expanding college following. Gravity Willing has opened for such acts as Dishwalla, Jack Johnson, Save Ferris, Pressure 4-5, The Samples, and The Pharcyde.

'Picture this: four UCSB students meet in Isla Vista and decide to start a band. Familiar story? Yes. But that's where familiarity ends. This band's debut release is better than most band's third or fourth effort.'
~ Mike Dawson, Music Director KTYD 99.9FM Santa Barbara.

''Gravity Willing' has created a rock-alternative-pop success with the stunning "Requia."... This is one of the best indie rock releases of 2001, you can bet on it. Just imagine, this is only the beginning...'

The most painfully enjoyable album I own...
author: Clara
Hands down one of the most enjoyable albums I own. A friend of mine is the younger brother of one of the bands' friends, and was playing the CD continuously. I asked him who it was and knew I HAD to have it - and thus I bought two copies (worth more than just a burnt copy). Their sound is mature beyond their years - spellbinding music set to captivating lyrics (and Nick's voice is the best I've ever heard. Ever. Period). I say that this album is painfully enjoyable, because the band broke up (check the website) and thus won't be producing anymore flawless albums, such as this. My only complaint is that the song "Please" is not on the album (though you can download a live mp3 of this song from their website). Buy it - and love it unabashedly.

What a Sound
author: Neil Topliffe
Gravity Willing, the up and coming band out of Isla Vista brings back a depth to rock music that has been lost in the sea of manufactured music in todays industry. This cd is something anyone and everyone could and should enjoy. I like to listen to listen to songs like Crusader Song in my car with the volume at a level audible to oncoming traffic on the freeway. Nick's (the lead singer's) voice just comes through so clean on that song. Good stuff. Undone and TV snow are also not to me missed. If you eventually hear a single or two on the radio, don't think that is all this disk has to offer, the entire cd is amazing. Put it in and press play, there's no skipping around.
