Album Notes

"Caught Between The Woods and the Road"
Produced, Mixed, and Engineered by Frank Gerace at MoonPool Studios, Allston, MA.

Co-produced by Tara Greenblatt

Tara Greenblatt's original music is in the genre of Acoustic Progressive Folk. It's rooted in her passion for storytelling, and flows effortlessly from her soulful voice and hand drums. Traces of R&B, Jazz, Blues, and Bluegrass are woven into the fabric of her songs. Tara's music is unique, contageous, warm, and engaging. Her voice captures both a wild innocence and age old wisdom. Her melodies are strong, her harmonies and rhythms are solid and bold.

BIO
When Tara received her first pair of drum sticks in 5th grade, she knew that it was time to put aside her mismatched collection of chopsticks, pots, and pans, and mature into a more serious musician. Chucking inhibition to the wind, she set out on her new career as a percussionist, denting and cracking endless plastic objects, wooden tables, and cardboard boxes. During her high school years she pursued formal training in both jazz drumming and opera. Her ability for writing songs developed in College shortly after stumbling upon the West African djembe. After two years of training in West African rhythms, Tara threw her drum over her shoulder and forged on to present her original songs to Greater Boston folk audiences.

Tara sings of stories that are potent, touching, and universal. Her poignant lyrics whirl above entrancing percussive textures that take on many forms throughout the journey of each song. Powerful funky drum beats as well as soft and sensual jazz influenced rhythms emanate from her drum as she wraps her soulful voice around the hearts of her listeners. Tara gives an equally dynamic performance whether entertaining as a solo singer/songwriter or with her two acoustic accompanyists on guitar and back up vocals.

Tara has opened for and sometimes accompanied known artists such as Melissa Ferrick, Erin McKeown, Edie Carey, Mike Younger, and Sleepy LaBeef. Her debut CD: "Caught Between the Woods and the Road" is now available online at

QUOTES
"When she drapes her big soulful voice over her rhythms, it's no stretch to understand why the gal and her djembe have little need for sidemen. She can unleash a melodic mouthful from the depths of her gut and just as quickly bring it back down to a softly turned phrase, without missing one of her own beats."
- Laura Kiritsy, The Worcester Phoenix

"Tara radiates a rare earthy joy in her music. Her powerful, impeccable djembe playing and a voice that melts walls are intensely warm and direct. This is music from a true heart. Don't miss it!"
- Oen Kennedy, Host, The Center for the Arts in Natick Open Mic, Member, TCAN Folk Committee

"It's great to see Tara use the West African Djembe drum as a lead instrument, and have it work so well in the context of her great song writing."
- Jonathan Shulm, Rhythm Magazine

"Wherever she performs, turn to the audience and watch their response; whether new to Tara's musical spell or long-standing fans, you'll find that they are enrapt. There is little side-talking when Greenblatt takes the stage."
-Bllu Catalano, City Shopper, Glue Magazine

REVIEWS

Powerful, original, emotional, and fun progressive folk music
author: Ros Bobos
Caught between...is a great record. I'm not generally into folk music which can be sentimental, predictable, and dull. While some of the songs maybe guilty of sentimentality, they are never predictable or dull. A sense of humor and enjoyable melodies keep the album from getting righteous or heavy. And Tara Greenblatt has an incredible gift for storytelling that is natural and emotional. Simple, smart, intense, and gentle, this is progressive folk at its best.

Tara Greenblatt , CD Review, Musician's Realm by Music Editor Tom Yanno
author: Tom Yanno
Bostonian Tara Greenblatt is a delightful new storyteller on the independent music scene and her debut CD, Caught Between The Woods And The Road…is an excellent collection of original songs.    From the first song, Fame and Money, it is clear that Greenblatt is an exceptional songwriter and vocalist.  Her folksy style and songwriting are reminiscent of legends Janis Ian and Bob Dylan.  As Dylan could get away with a song title such as Stuck Inside of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again, so does Greenblatt in the unlikely title Eastern European German Jewish Indian. Just as Dylan makes his song make sense, so does Greenblatt with hers, while taking a tongue-in-cheek poke at ethnic stereotypes.
