Album Notes

Green Genes is a collaboration of two brothers and a friend, inspired by a Chicago children's store. In 2008, John Knecht sent out word to his musical friends that his sister's environmentally-themed store for children called Green Genes (green-genes.com) needed an album. Brother Doug sprang into action and wrote 10 perfect pop and rock songs that weave together different genres of music and beautiful lyrics about the planet. Doug's friend Trent listened to the tracks and added creative textual flavors and sounds from synth and sitar.

One challenge was that John, Doug and Trent lived in Chicago, New York and San Francisco. So, the process of recording in different locations took place, sending tracks back and forth for over a year. The tunes landed in Chicago, where professional singer Ashlee Hardgrave gave voice to the lyrics. Doug even lends his voice to a few tracks. Everything was woven together at Uptown Studios in Chicago and polished in 2010.
