notes

Keith Greeninger paints intricate portraits of the human condition with powerful melodic images, deep engaging guitar rhythms and warm heart wrenching vocals. He is a multi award winning singer songwriter and the 2005 winner of the prestigious Telluride Troubadour National Song Writing Competition. In addition to the Telluride Blue Grass Festival, 2005 found Keith at The Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival and The Sisters Folk Festival in Oregon, as well as venues and performance halls through out the country. Keith Greeninger is that rare performer for whom people lean forward in their seats, eager to hear every note and every word. We are happy to report…that quality is captured here in Keith’s recordings.

A third generation Northern Californian, Keith grew up at the edge of the vanishing orchards of the Santa Clara Valley. In 1989, Keith settled in San Francisco and eventually joined forces with Kimball Hurd and Roger Feuer, two other talented Bay Area musicians, to form City Folk. City Folk was an acoustic trio known for their rich introspective song writing; tight three part vocal harmonies and expanded musical arrangements. The group quickly rose to the top of the Bay area folk scene and was soon enjoying immense popularity on the National Folk and Americana circuits. City Folk recorded and released three albums and, in 1995, won KFOG's Best of the Bay music award. That year would also mark the end of City Folk and their final national tour.

Keith released his first solo album in 1997. The album (entitled Wind River Crossing) includes musical contributions by well-known artists like Flaco Jimenez, Peter Michael Escovido and Martin Simpson. It’s an album rich with fearless, compelling examples of classic songwriting presented with deep humanity and bravery, stunning artistry and soul. It is an intense and many-layered compilation of Keith's ballads, with the ever-present focus on nature and the human condition.
In 1997 Keith was one of the winners of the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Songwriters Contest. Later, the same year he also won the Napa Valley Songwriting competition. Keith was invited up to Canada to help put together a unique music and wilderness festival called The Gathering at Island Lake. The experience found him living in Canada for a period of time, traveling and performing through out BC and Western Alberta. The festival is a showcase of International artist and musicians sharing the stage with Black Foot and Cree Story tellers, dancers and teachers. Set in a beautiful remote location high in the Canadian Rocky’s the festival promotes cultural and environmental education and respect.

Settling back into the coastal mountains of Northern California Keith began recording for his second album entitled Back To You. A perfect follow up to the lush production of Wind River Crossing, Back to you was a more striped down approach that highlighted Keith’s soulfully diverse talent as a singer and songwriter. Deftly supported by the amazing prowess of the band Water featuring multi-instrumentalist Dayan Kai on Guitar, Dobro, Mandolin, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, and harmony. The album garnered huge airplay by triple A Maverick KPIG and found a live version of the bands “Red Wine Again” featured on the stations Best of KPIG Volume One CD along with such artist as Robert Earl Keen, Joe Ely, Dave Alvin and Dar Williams. The making of this fine album also forged a strong musical bond and friendship between Keith and Dayan. Like true west coast brothers these two artists create a unique and soulful sound together.

This third CD from Keith, Glorious Peasant, brings together many of the artist from the previous CDs and blends new songs and stylistic excursions into a powerful work with something to say. It must be heard, descriptions would fall short…

  • Glorious Pleasant

I love every song on this CD. There is rich variety from rocking tunes to thoughtful ballads. You won't regret getting this CD.

  • Superb from start to finish!
    author: Monica

Glorious Peasant is one of the best CD's I've had the pleasure of listening to so far this year. Love the music, the lyrics, and the heart that obviously goes into both.

  • Great music, little supprise

I heard Kieth Greenginger on "please stand bye" live KPIG radio show. Mostly I bought the CD because of what he said about his beliefs. The music was great, social conscious lyrics and beautiful harmony.

  • The songs and production on this disc are both superb!
    author: Steve Gardner

The songs and production on this disc are both superb! Keith Greeninger's vocals are rich and emotive while his lyrics are heartfelt and inspirational. The pianist on this CD is John R. Burr, who also plays with Alison Brown's band, and his chops and phrasing are terrific. The same is true of Billy Cardine's dobro parts. All of the musicians are of a high caliber and there's not one tune on this disc that I want to skip over. I'm getting more of these as gifts so I can turn some of my friends onto this guy! What a great disc!

  • The depth of an old soul, the open wonder of a child
    author: Matt Stone

Keith's music knows no time. There is no sense of the frantic or the trivial or the shallow here. There is an abiding notion of love, life, and the richness of experience that is possible if we just hold out for it. A more fundamental rythm of existence that we have forgotten. Is this the depth of sense of an old soul or the open wonder of an unjaded child? It is both.

  • Wonderful!

Great CD! Keith Greeninger is new to my world of music, having first seen him in Santa Cruz while attending a release party for our friend, Sherry Austin. Loved his voice and have since seen him a couple more times. I wanted a CD from the first time I heard him perform and, after buying this one, will be buying more in the future. Wonderful lyrics and voice. I hope to see him again in the future.

  • I love this CD!
    author: Alice Di Micele

Keith really hits the mark on this CD. It's not just his voice, or his songs, or his amazing production, or the great musicians backing him up. The combination of all this mixed with his sincerity and just plain awesome humanness that keep me listening... over and over... buy this one!

  • Words are a poor substitute ...
    author: Mark Johnson

Words are a poor substitute for the beauty of these lyrics and this music. I put Keith Greeninger at the pinnacle of my long list of favorite songwriter/performers. Few things, to me, compare to the experience of sitting with a good glass of wine while listening to this CD.

  • You thought they didn't make em like this anymore!
    author: Todd Pinsky

Compelling tales, real emotion, and a musical blend of ballads, rags, blues, hymns, ditties, and good old “pass-that-bottle” grooves. Keith's voice ranges from lullaby-soft to a roadhouse boogie roar. The production quality on the vocal track is its own reason to buy this CD. This is one of the warmest, best sounding voal recordings I have ever heard.

  • Transcendent...the ultimate antidote to the "junk" music industry!
    author: Steve Meckfessel

One of the best acoustic singer-songwriter CDs in years! Powerful voice, tantalizing guitar work in unusual tunings and voicings, intricate melodies, hard hitting lyrics. Glorious Peasant twists and turns sonically and lyrically...it is something you need to hear again and again to fully appreciate. If you thought honesty died after Dylan, Mitchell and Van Morrison, think again...

  • It's growing on me daily!
    author: Laurel Brody L.Ac.

Keiths new CD hasn't left the CD player since I got it and I've been taking it with me to friends houses when I go visiting. Every time I hear it, I like it more than I did the time before!
