Album Notes

Jeff Kelly and the Green Pajamas are usually associated with psychedelic rock, largely because of their paisley-guitar beginnings. So what’s the deal? Well, for a brief moment in the time-space continuum, The Green Pajamas have taken a left turn from their psych-pop-guitar-rock and headed straight for the Country. Jeff Kelly and partner in crime Joe Ross have always had a dalliance with country in their hearts and in their music. While some of the songs on this CD are dirt old (Jeff wrote “Last Night Was Like The End Of The World” long before his earliest Green Monkey Records releases) most are freshly minted and all are brand spankin’ new recordings. While this music is new, it reflects an old-school country sensibility; these songs would be more at home with Hank and Johnny Cash than the country charts of today.

Jeff and bass player Joe have toyed with the idea of this album for ten years. It needed to age. It was worth the wait. This is not a gimmick. It is not a marketing ploy. It is just plain good music played from the heart. From its sly opening tribute to the great Hollywood westerns all the way to the mournful close, Green Pajama Country is a classic.
