Album Notes

'"Greg Connors’ trademark simple guitar licks and detached alienated, lonely voice are coupled with a scary command of the English language. He is the Howard Finster of music, painting vivid abstract images with his words and guitar.”
Mikel K —Southeast Performer

With a deceptively simple sound of an old country or blues record, Greg weaves a fresh, modern view of emotion and experience, winding them through dense branches in and out of darkness and diffused light. His own raw and vulnerable sound journey can do any listener a great service and if you've ever felt the limb snap it may just be his dry wit.

Connors has been making music in supporting slots for national as well as local acts in both Atlanta and New York City. He has awakened audiences for the likes of John Mayer, Joseph Arthur, Cat Power, Smoke, Songs; Ohia, Palace Brothers, and Vic Chesnutt.

He was a regular voice on Georgia State‚ WRAS with his band Front St. (w/ Will Fratesi‚ Cat Power, Tenement Hall) and with his backing rhythm section The Curb‚ (Mark Perkins‚ Brodie Stove, Andrew Brown‚ some jazz band). They regularly performed live, both on air and in clubs to benefit the voice of Georgia State.

Greg has played a number of venues throughout his career. From his southern beginnings in Georgia at such local favorites as the 40 Watt Club, in Athens, and the Variety Playhouse, in Atlanta. Recent appearances include performances at the Bowery Ballroom and Tonic in New York City.

His latest effort, "Here, There, and Anymore", was produced by studio genius, singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur. Scared Records is producing and releasing his next album 'Full Moon Flashlight' in 2008. To purchase a wealth of material visit www.scaredrecords.com., or www.myspace.com/gregconnors.

heart-breaking stuff sung from a voice that’s been dragging behind you for years
author: Joseph Arthur
Greg Connors is a great songwriter: a writer of words which find the silent space in between emotion, the typically indescribable places where you’re left on your own to dance with the shadows. Also, he’s just really very funny, like on the song “Amasakist”, where the chorus goes: “I’m a masochist / To me every day is a good one.” But usually his lines are denser, like bulletin boards full of post-it notes where you wrote emotions you forgot to feel: “Now and these days / I’m trying to hold up / my own head myself / Without the incriminating way / I think you feel / Being my puppeteer, from “Anymore”, or “Rusted colander under thoughts / Mingling somewhere between us”, from “She’s Talented.” The other striking thing about Greg is the way these often obscure lines are delivered with a natural ease, equal parts dry wit and emotion. They devastate with a smile but never is he joking. “We’re on our way / And disappearing / The contrast gave in to regards”, from “Regards.” Its often heart-breaking stuff sung from a voice that’s been dragging behind you for years, rolling over pavement, stone and regret: “You’re pushing again / For that final start / Isn’t it a lot like / Changing lightbulbs in the dark.”

Amaskist (sic) has not left my head for months. Quirky in a good way. Irony never tasted so good.

The atmosphere is real damn cool, and Greg’s voice is personal and grabs from hi

I have been a big fan of Joseph Arthur since his magnificent debut on Real World almost ten years ago. His clever, beautiful, sometimes dark, melancholic and storytelling poprock is unique. So it’s therefore very cool to see Joseph as a producer for a new discovery I recently did at the mighty MySpace. His name is Greg Connors and his music can “easily” be described as a hybrid between Eels, Joseph Arthur, Lou Reed, Joe Henry, Blake Morgan, Pink Floyd and Tom McRae. Well… ehumm… there you have it… easy huh? The atmosphere is real damn cool on the album and Greg’s voice is personal and grabs from his first breath. The album starts out with the beautiful “Monster” which is one fave, the Pink Floyd smelling “Anymore (Long Time Starting)” another. The main part of the album is this good and it grows for each listen which probably will raise the grading to a four with a few more listens. It’s therefore highly recommended for all you open minded listeners out there.
