From the makers of self doubt, lost love and the scent of autumn leaves comes multi-instrumentalist Greg Francis. Greg is a native of suburban NY. Originally a drummer, Greg spent time behind the kit supporting singer/songwriters, indie bands and more recently a progressive hard rock band. All the while Greg had been plunking out his own ideas on acoustic guitar and honing his songwriting craft. In recent years Greg also added mandolin and clawhammer banjo to his repertoire. Now with the drumming portion of his musical life assuming a supporting role Greg is taking the opportunity to bring his own musical vision to life.
Up until recent years the material Greg had in the works could have been likened more to artists like Aimee Mann or Joseph Arthur but a trip to Nashville with family in 2007 would change the direction of Greg's music enormously. Determined to come home with an instrument bought with inheritance money from his grandfather, " That is mostly where the music in my family comes from. ", he chose mandolin and also returned with an armful of classic country CDs. " That mandolin really turned me around and opened my ears. The first tune that it gave me was Pieces Of You and as I began to flesh out the rest of the song I slowly discovered that I had really found a new musical voice - country infused folk. Most of that equation had already been there but the country/bluegrass aspect was really brought to light thanks to Nashville and that mandolin. "
Greg's debut EP, Postcards & DNA, represents the culmination of all lessons learned thus far in songwriting craft, recording technique and performance. A true DIY project, Postcards & DNA was recorded and mostly performed by Greg himself save for piano which fell under the capable fingers of Christine St. Pierre, and electric guitar ( Boxes ) and 2nd acoustic guitar ( Pieces of You ) by Nick Sumner. Both also lent their voices to the harmonies that can be heard throughout. Rebecca Eboli lends her vocal talent to the lead off track " In The Way ".
