I started taking piano lessons at the age of 4. After 10 years of private training I became interested in boogie and blues piano, listening to Albert Ammons, Otis Spann, Dave Brubeck, Dr. John and many others.I would listen to the records and figure out the signature riffs they would use and began to learn to improvise. I was also listening to musicians like Frank Zappa and Todd Rundgren and wanted to learn about musical composition. I studied music at Ohio University for 2 years learning theory, counterpoint, harmony and and classical music analysis. I was exposed to a lot of jazz and experimental styles of music, avant- garde and fusion.
I have been a performing musician now for well over 30 years playing a variety of styles but I always come home to the blues. I fell in love with the blues mainly because of the freedom that it offers to express whatever I can,
its simplicity, honesty and soulfulness. And a good shuffle can still make me move my feet. It's a timeless musical form that works, if it's genuine to it's roots. I try to do that as much as possible, and maybe add a little bit of myself in there, too.
On this album I play or sing on all the tracks with a drum machine.I AM THE ONLY HUMAN YOU HEAR ON THIS CD.
