Gregg Swann’s latest CD “Everybody’s Got To Be Somewhere” is full of bittersweet pop songs that hearken back to the days when bands kept it simple in the studio: guitars, drums, bass and an occasional piano. The stripped-down approach recalls Tom Petty’s early 90s output or Paul Westerberg before he disappeared into his basement. There are plenty of driving, hook-laden anthems and wistful ballads tinged with hope and regret. But, it’s the clever turns of phrase and Swann’s penchant for dreaming out loud that make a lasting impression on “Everybody”.
