notes

"One of the most innovative guitarists of our time!"
The International Guitar Festival of Great Britain

Meet Gregg Wright . . . master guitarist/musician and 21st Century Bluesman. Firmly schooled in the Blues Masters of the past, he boldly forges ahead, pushing the boundaries of his craft, taking you on a soaring whirlwind of musical fire and colour! Musical gifts, clearly in evidence on his newest CD, "Lightning Strike!!!"

Gregg began his professional career on the U.S. Southern circuit, opening shows for Blues legends such as Albert King and Freddie King, receiving knowledge and encouragement from both elder Bluesmen. Now one of America's elite guitar/ session men, he's a featured soloist on the Giant-Screen IMAX movie "Ocean Oasis" with the Prague Philharmonic. He's also toured and recorded albums with the Jacksons, Mick Fleetwood and many more.

"Lightning Strike!!!" showcases all of Gregg's musical power and magic, with lots of fluid, molten guitar, great original songs, smoky soulful vocals, and monster production.

"I wanted Lightning Strike to be my own personal Blues Odyssey" he says, "and not just another empty exercise in 3-chord re-hash! I hope everybody enjoys listening to it, as much as we all enjoyed making it!"

Welcome . . . to the Blues in the 21st Century!

  • From the Bayous of Baton Rouge to L.A. and Back !!
author: A Fan from the earlier years...

I'm pleased to see the success Gregg's found in the UK, but thought I'd share a perspective from a fan who very much enjoyed his music in the early years. Spending the majority of my life in Louisiana, my friends and I saw his shows many times in Lafayette at the "Swamp Fox" on the Strip, "The Oaks", and "The Little Mushroom" in Grand Couteau ! YEAH ! - he was our favorite back then, we always considered Gregg a quality guitarist deserving much recognition. Man...that was around 25 years ago. This CD is great...had no idea he played other instruments than the guitar. I like his reflection on his Louisiana roots. Of course his guitar mastery is fantastic !!

  • Superb blues/rock guitar - good mix of material.

First full blown release in this style and well worth catching. Intelligent mix of material predominantly blues/rock with various spices added to inspire the soul. Track 5 (Fast One) has a solo that made the hair on the back of my neck standup first time I heard it - awesome stuff. Wonder how many strings he broke in the process? One minor issue - next time he should ditch the electronic drums for the real thing 'cos there's a small but significant difference in tone and oomph. Overall - Very pleased!
