"Turns" is the latest release from the G-Bop recording series featuring musicians from the Washington, DC area. Drummer Greg Holloway has been performing with Jimmie Heath, Hank Jones and others. Like the previously released "Play Therapy" and "Full Circle", "Turns" maintains the hard school of progressive swing with plenty of energy and improvisation. This recording takes on a new identity..a slight turn from the other releases. There is no piano, guitar or any chordal instrument..only Tenor/sop sax (Rob Holmes) and bass (Kris Funn) currently with Kenny Garrett....the entire group is swinging without a net! Listeners are already talking about not only the performance, but the over all production of "Turns"!

This is a hard swinging project that is loved in Japan. It is reminisent of the Sonny Rollins trios with Chuck Isreal on Bass and Alan Dawson on drums. A superb audio production.

Heard a tune at Swiss Internet Radio and found it great. The CD overall confirms my firt impression to 100%. A very powerful trio (all three artists)! What I admire most is the Sonny Rollins like sonore, uncomplicated, direct and forward pushing drive. My brother (received second CD)totally agrees.

This Cd is swingin'. You don't even miss the piano or guitar...everyone is melodic and listening. The production is top shelf.I recommend to players and listeners.
