Nice to hear a pianist taking some chances. " A Shorter Line" is very original. It is full of unique forms, harmonic surprises, and interesting cadences. And the playing is top notch. Laporta has a flawless technique and plays with incredible clarity which really allows the listener to hear the depth of his compositions. I highly recommend this album.

A Shorter Line Review

I haven\'t listened to much solo piano music in a while, it\'s quite refreshing to hear Greg LaPorta\'s. Greg develops his ideas quickly without fluff. It really grabs the attention and engages the mind that way, not having to wade through filler before he gets to his musical point. His harmonic choices are, to say the least, interesting and engaging. The forms he uses are uniquely his own. Mr. LaPorta\'s near perfect technique assures that his musical thoughts are communicated crisply, in \"high resolution\". I think that for most listenere, his great ability as a player is invisible - it makes it seem as though he\'s simply breathing out these wonderful and complex compositions effortlessly. He plays so cleanly that you don\'t hear his technique at all. On the first listen, I didn\'t have any expectations... but when I got to the end of the last track, I was compelled to immediately listen to the entire album again. All in all, \"A Shorter Line\" is a refreshing and unique pleasure.
