Innocence Lost is a collection of saxophone
ballads described as very melodic, soulful, romantic,
and emotional.
As stated on the album:
"Inspiration for this music came from a family tragedy in January of 2007. Project Dryden Child was created to support the victims of this tragedy. Through this fund, local communities have provided their time, efforts, and donations to make their lives better. This album is dedicated to children of abuse and those who help in one form or another to prevent child abuse."
Saxophonist Gregory Fiske spent the year following
the tragedy of his niece and nephew, writing the music
and gathering friends to record. The album's first song,
"Bossa Mood", is also found on track 7, played by baritone
saxophonist Thom Keith. There are also second versions of
songs where Greg and keyboardist Bruce Patenaude use
vintage instruments, a 1913 Steinway grand piano and a
1920 Beuscher C Melody saxophone. Tracks 8 and 9 feature
duets with guitarist Ron Riddle and Greg on tenor saxophone.
