Album Notes

Gregory and the Hawk - also known to fans as GATH - is actually the solo project of Meredith Godreau and is named after her brother and his imaginary hawk. Things took off quickly when she posted some songs in 2004 from what would later become the Boats and Birds EP, (2006). Meredith self-released a demo (Gregory and the Hawk, 2005) under the GATH moniker that shipped thousands of copies around the world from her own bedroom. Over the past few years, GATH has earned a legion of dedicated internet fans. Uniquely touching lo-fi songs with a hint of whimsy and delicate vocal melodies remind the listener of Nick Drake, Diane Cluck, and Joanna Newsom.

Meredith hails from upstate New York where at the age of 14, she was able to play the guitar, violin/viola and piano. For the past decade she has been making recordings and playing shows around the Northeastern United States accompanied by a rotating cast of very talented musician friends. As GATH, she has played alongside such notables such as Chris Garneau, Toby Goodshank (ex Moldy Peaches), Jenny O, The Age of Rockets, and The Vibration, among many others.
