Album Notes

Artist: Greg Ribot
Title: Lengua sin Palabras

Composer, Arranger & Bandleader Greg Ribot has been performing and recordng primarily in the New York City region for over 35 years. He has produced four CDs, "El Flete de Mi Canto", "Cumbia del Norte", "Cumbia y Mas", and "Lengua sin Palabras". He has also recorded with Sean Lennon, Marc Ribot and others.
Original instrumental music using a variety of grooves-Cumbia, Mambo, Danzon. Tango, Joropo and other Latin American rhythms. The music contains many facets due to the varied backgrounds of the musicians, a natural result of working in a multi-cultural environment such as New York. In addition to the Latin American elements ther are inflections of Jazz, Blues, Rock and Folkloric. Each song tells a story or paints a picture, but all stay rooted in dance and celebration.

Drummer and multi-percussionist Vince Cherico advised me on every level of rhythm, adding layer upon layer based on his deep knowledge of traditional music throughout the Americas. He also participated thoughout the entire mixing process.
Bassist Andy Eulau locked right into the groove and brought a deep harmonic sense to the songs.
Guitarist Francisco Navarro brought his encyclopedic knowledge and exquisite sensitivity to the project.
Trumpet player Walt Szymanski made the impossible look easy while Trombonist Curtis Foulkes jumped right in and laid it down with style and perfect nuance.
Guest artists Marc Ribot (electric guitar), Nydia Mata (congas), Bill Ware (vibes) and Alex Harding (bari sax) brought the songs they were on to a whole new dimension.
Recorded at Kaleidoscopt Sound, Union City, NJ
