About the CD:
Gretchen Richie's newly released second album, 'It Could Happen To You' features Gretchen in a variety of musical settings, ranging from bossa nova and swing songs with added guitar and percussion accompaniment, to torch songs, a blues number and a simple, intimate duet with just piano. While most of the songs are jazz standards, this collection is a personal journey as Gretchen crafts each song with her unique interpretation. Among the lovingly-selected songs are the sophisticated 'But Beautiful', an especially passionate 'Cry Me A River', the swinging 'I'm Beginning To See The Light', a gritty 'Learning The Blues', a Latin-inspired 'It Could Happen To You', the poignant 'You Are There' and Blossom Dearie's gem, the philosophical and wistful 'Love is An Elusive Celebration'.

About Gretchen:
Gretchen has been drawn to sophisticated, romantic songs ever since she was a child. Her mother's collection of records was full of artists such as Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Nat King Cole, Rosemary Clooney, Joe Williams, Julie London and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Growing up in Jamaica, W.I., New York, Southern California, and England, she soaked up the varied musical genres and rhythms she was exposed to. Her professional career began at age 14, singing and performing with a rock group in her hometown of Malibu, CA. She soon turned to song-writing, solo performing, and eventually musical theater. After meeting her pianist husband Randy Richie in Washington, D.C., she began performing the music of her roots - the great popular standard - in restaurants, clubs and in concert. For over 17 years Gretchen and Randy have performed in the Washington, D.C. area and beyond, including Boca Raton, FL, Palm Springs, CA, San Francisco, CA, Pennsylvania and France.

Previous Recordings:
Her debut album, 'Close Your Eyes' - released in 2000, has been a great success and is still finding new fans. It enjoys radio-play on area jazz stations and has received a wave of positive reviews.

Gretchen is a unique talent and this CD proves it. A listener can be confident of continuous enjoyment while listening to Gretchen and her accompaniment. This CD is perfect for relaxing, intimacy and de-stressing after a bad day at the office.

  • My kind of vocalist - smooth, warm and very talented!

The selections are from the music era that I love. I play keyboard for a number of nursing homes in the Fredericksburg, VA area - this kind of music. I would love to see Gretchen. What nights does she sing in Leonardtown?
