Album Notes

GRIEF SOCIETY's 'How We Used To Live' is rootsy alternative guitar based rock from Britain.

At times pure driven rock at others capturing the funky feel of Hendrix's Band of Gypsies. The band are one of the hottest attractions on the 'alternative' circuit in the UK and this album gives you a good idea why.

Definitely cool songs. Easygoing, but with enough of an occassional bite to keep you on your toes.

This is a rollercoaster ride of rock, blues, funk and soul topped off with some blistering guitarwork and a quirky English charm. GRIEF SOCIETY deal in real songs and combine the best bits of a melodic rock band with the power of a grunge act and the feel of the best r&b acts. Excellent!!

This CD was a pleasant surprise and a breath of fresh air in what is becoming an increasingly mundane and samey genre. Grief Society don't care what everyone else is doing, they've got their own ideas about what good music should be about. The musical style is definitely of a rock persuasion but with a unique feel and approach. Every time I listened to 'How we used to live', I found things that I hadn't noticed the last time round. Funk, blues, jazz, hip-hop; they all seem to have a contribution to make to this album. I just hope they don't leave it too long before releasing the next one. In summary then, it's rock Jim, but not as we know it!
