(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Melodic funk/rock with a grungy feel. Like a cross between Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers with an REM style feel for singalong songs and lyrics about pain and heartache.

notes

GRIEF SOCIETY's second album "Universal Misunderstanding" continues the funk/rock journey that the band began on it's 1997 debut album "How We Used To Live". The band have been described as "like a British Pearl Jam" and a whole host of other things besides...

"Funk, Blues, jazz, Hip-hop, they all seeem to have a contribution to make to this album." (Shane jackson, CD Baby, reviewing GRIEF SOCIETY)

"Definitely cool songs. Easygoing but with enough of an ocassional bite to keep you on your toes. Some fine guitar work in there, stuff which works equally well in the slower and more uptempo pieces." (Jon Worley, Aiding & Abetting)

  • Oh Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subtlety with power, dark yet uplifting, retro and now. A True masterpiece of elegantly designed contradiction.

They said it was like Pearl Jam and RHCP??!!! More like R.E.M. and Faith No More. Still, those are good bands, and so is this one.

  • Damn, this is good. Up there with Californication.

This is stunning stuff. Powerful, groovy stuff with a sizeable chunk of funk! Can't wait to see this material live. Manages that incredible balance between uplifting and depressing - this album is a rollercoaster of modern rock brilliance.
