Album Notes
Cathy Grier’s "Retracing" CD, was recorded at Private Ear studio in Key West Florida, in 1998. Featuring a full back up band, it’s an eclectic mix of blues, cajun, reggae and jazz. Blues fans will enjoy the back porch feel of "Back Road", a sensual story of secret love. Her cool jazzy side is evident in "Birds Bop". Her activist side is also showcased in songs "Witness", "Dedicated", "Get Back To Sanity", and "Jungle", a rhythmic tale of lost Rain Forests.

Cathy Grier has been called folk-ed up blues, gutsy, and a musician with a voice. Her performances are heartfelt, showcasing her captivating guitar style and rich powerful voice. As a songwriter who is sometimes political, sometimes analytical, she echoes Dylan and Mitchell with a touch of Bonnie Raitt on the side.

Cathy participates in New York City's MTA program, “Music Under New York." She has performed in Avery Fisher Hall and was featured on CNN, CBS Sunday Morning and NBC's Today Show. Cathy’s ‘street’ performances reveal a more energetic approach to her music that has not only attracted the eye of commuters but many indie-documentary filmmakers.

Currently dividing her time between New York City and Columbia County NY, Cathy Grier is involved in handling every aspect of her career. She records on her own label SideHill Music.

Since releasing "Retracing”, Cathy Grier has opened up for Joan Armatrading, James Cotton and Dave Mason. She traveled to France to open up for Nilda Fernandez, (an artist she produced in 1996 after adapting his songs to English).

Cathy formed her first independent record label in 1980 with partner Lenore Troia. The 8 year association was highlighted by an MTV basement tape win in 1986 and numerous recordings. After venturing out on her own, Cathy lived in Key West recording and performing and opening up for major artists like Laura Nyro. Cathy returned to New York city to record “New York Sessions", a self produced album in 1990 and then spent six years in Paris and London writing and performing for many artists, including World Music guitarist Pierre Bensusan, Carrere artist Indra, Sony Music artist Anggun and Maryanna Matisse, who’s songs have been featured on United Airlines pop 40 channel.

London's “Time Out” magazine described her as, “Funkily melodic in a mature and assured style.”

Cathy Grier believes music is a powerful tool that crosses boundaries of ignorance and hate.

Cathy’s two other recordings are also available: “Comin’ Back To Me” an intimate solo recording of vocal and guitar, and ‘What Fools Do”, a CD sampler were recorded at The Magic Shop, New York City in 2002.
