Terra Grimard's music is 'warm and infectious' and just has a certain glow about it.
'Absolutely exquisite!’ says juslikemusic.com
After a two-year hiatus from music, several jungle adventures and voyages at sea, Terra Grimard is releasing her first full-length album. Having recorded 3 EP’s in the past and trekked on 2 cross-Canada tours(once as supporting act for Allison Crowe), this release comes with no comparison to her earlier work. This time the recording is hand-crafted in her home recording studio in East Vancouver and her writing is a cohesive statement on self-discovery and personal evolution.
“I woke up one day and decided it was time to record a new album. I made up my mind to do as much as I could myself, and in my own space” states Terra. Unconventional Shining, the title of her new album, is a product of a rainy season and a pent-up desire to write and record.
The album is mixed and mastered by Grammy Award winning S. Husky Höskulds, known for his work with Tom Waits, Ani Difranco, the Gypsy Kings, Fiona Apple, and many more.
"As I was beginning to lay down scratch tracks for the album, I gathered up the courage to contact Husky to see if he would work with an independent artist like myself. He was very open to the idea.. and I kept in contact with him throughout the recording process."
Terra heard his work on Yael Naim's latest album and thought he would be a good fit for Unconventional Shining. Husky has since asked Terra to join his non-exclusive online record label 'Ground Lift- Elevating Audio / Visual experiences' which is set to launch November 2009.
Terra grew up outside of Kamloops, a small town in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. Living away from urban life had it's benefits; less distractions caused Terra to spent most of her time playing the piano, writing music and recording on her 8-track. Terra has a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and is now based out of Vancouver BC.
"I think I came out of studying jazz at school and had a bit of an identity crisis. I really didn’t want a career singing jazz standards. After taking a couple of years off, I spent 2 months in a small village in Guatemala and that’s where I began to write this album."
