Album Notes

"The Grins" for a long time, have largely been considered as one of America's best kept musical secrets. Writing and recording nothing but their own brand of Original Rock and Roll music for over the last twenty years, "The Grins" have consistently managed to surprise the unsuspecting listener with their flavorful hooks and indulging rhythms. And not surprisingly, in all that time, "The Grins" have managed to compile an impressive repertoire of recordings that contains over some 300 original compositions. In general, the tunes in their private musical library collection cover topics ranging from love songs to hate songs from sorrow songs to silly songs; and basically, if there was something to write about, it's in there somewhere.

While being totally intuitive and original, Grin music is mostly composed of fresh acoustic and electric guitars that are habitually riddled with simple guitar hooks and other ear-teasing fills....that more than often interlace and wrap themselves around the harmony of the lead vocals.... With a rock-steady bass and solid drum backing, these mid-American homegrown songs are a pleasure to listen to, but sometimes hard to categorize. Some call it alternative, some call it rock-a-billy, some call it crazy country, some call it Americana, some call it hop-n-rock, and some just plain call it good; whatever you decide to call it, you can't call it boring! There is enough going on in this music to please everyone from the musical novice to the lifelong listener. But.... Warning!......There is one thing you must be cautioned of..... many listeners consider Grin Songs to be a form of Musical Morphine and they just can't get enough.......Don't say they didn't warn you!......As you'll soon find out for yourself, "The Grins" truly are a Great American Underground Band....

The New Americana Sound!!!! A Truly Original Band.

Unbelievable release. Very unique songwriting and catchy too. Guy Grin has the most unique voice in rock music today. The rhythm section of Lull-Ritts is akin to early Attractions sans Elvis. I can't get over how original this band is---bouncy,quirky arrangements with a midwestern feel. This is the New Americana Sound!!! Somebody sign this American treasure of a band before it's too late.

I just can't get over it! I bought "Girlyland" but I haven't listened to it yet. I'm still squeezing the nector out of "Coffee Grounds" and I can't bear to take it out of my cd player! I just can't stop listening to this CD!!! If "Girlyland" is half as good as "Coffee Grounds" I'll be musically happy for the rest of my life! Thank you guys... I mean GRINS!!! Jill Kent

GirlyLand has hit after hit! I still have not chosen a favorite song yet, cause there are so many great ones. Jane, Allison or maybee American Girl? It is hard to choose. This one hasn't come out of my CD rotation, and it probably never will!

Who the hell are these Midwestern geniuses? First of all the songwriting is interesting and unbelievably catchy. Check out the songs Jane, Allison and Girlyland. I hear hints of rockabilly, Elvis Costello, The Violent Femmes, Todd Rungren and maybe even a little bit of gospel. Whoever thinks the state of popular music in America is in shambles owes it to themselves to listen to this refreshing ORIGINAL release.
