Here is an Austin singer/songwriter whose band, Grub Dog and The Modestos, gives you the best of both worlds: bar band music you can listen to in the morning. He's been compared to Westerberg and Petty, his shows to the Heartbreakers and the Stones. This is loud, no holds barred rock and roll with the added pleasure of refreshingly sweet songs.
Grub's first release with the Modestos is Merry Xmas (from your Ex-Girlfriend) a typically gut-wrenching and funny song about loneliness during the holidays. It'll have you nodding in recognition and singing along.
The "b-side" is End of Her Line, a stonesy number about a certain kind of girl in a certain kind of bar.

Great country rock with plenty of guitars & a little fiddle.
author: Adrian SutcliffeNot exactly a typical Christmas record! - just a fantastic song with a cool country rock feel, plenty of guitars, a little fiddle & great lyrics to sing along too. The 2nd track, End of Her Line, is a little rockier & I imagine both would sound great live in a Texas bar!

I have an earlier version of this song and it rocks a bit more, and I prefer that version. This version of Merry X-mas is also great, its a clever song with lyrics that tell a story, but this version just doesn't have the same vibe as the Amazing Sweethearts version. It's still one of my favorite Christmas songs and you should buy it! The other song "End of her line" is another Grub Dog classic! If you are a true lover of honest Americana Roots Rock inspired music you should by this CD and his others! Merry Christmas to all!!!
