Album Notes

The power-pop sensibility of Cheap Trick. The grit of Stone Temple Pilots. The noise of Bob Mould. The attitude of Led Zeppelin. And some wise-ass lyrics thrown in for good measure.

Mrs. Grundy's 1999 debut "Your Stinky Candy" made its mark in the indie music press for its commitment to solid songwriting, tight musicianship, and refusal to take itself too seriously while remaining unabashedly catchy.

IndieMusic.com calls it "a glorious celebration of humor and joyous rock that REALLY rocks." Gajoob's Bryan Baker labels it "squarely alternative rock with top-notch songs and just the right amount of garage grunge." But this record is perhaps best summed up by Jim Santo of Demo Universe, who bluntly declares it "a happy slap in the head."

Matt Scharfglass plays all the instruments and handles songwriting and production duties, while fellow NYC gun for hire Peter Levin (Zen Tricksters, God Street Wine, Dangerman) joins the proceedings on vocals and drums.

Mrs. Grundy is one of those bands that you hope breaks wide open, but would like to keep to yourself so the majors don't ruin a good thing.

A cleverly conceived concoction of noisy, ballsy alt-rock and rib-tickling wise-ass lyrics that'll have you laughing while you strum your air guitar.

Amazingly bass-heavy pop with wit and hooks.

The writing is top-notch. Slab of grooves on wry...heavy on the bash, but plenty of pop to go around.
