GT Hymnself, a Detroit hip-hop hero, became known around the world in the fall of 2003 after the release of his second mixtape released free on the Internet by Black Sea Music, Inc. The 2003 mixtape by GT Hymnself received over four hundred thousand downloads worldwide and was considered one of the best mixtapes in 2003 by writers at “The Source Magazine”. Since 2004, GT has appeared on many mixtapes throughout Detroit, New York, Miami, Atlanta, Toronto, Los Angeles, Europe & Japan. GT’s huge fan base has created an overwhelming demand for Black Sea Music to release his debut album “Midwest Side Story.”
“Midwest Side Story” has been called brilliant, a breath of fresh air and an album you’ll be able to listen to for the next 30 years by some hip-hops most respectful A&Rs, radio program directors and national DJ’s.
GT was born in Columbia, Maryland. This tongue twisting, mind boggling, never afraid to say what’s on his mind MC, has been influenced by talented artists such as the Roots, Nas, Jay Z, Tribe Called Quest, B.I.G, Tupac, Dr. Dre, Wu Tang and Common. GT versatile song ability can be credited to his stay in Chicago, Colorado, Miami and now in Detroit.
While in Chicago GT became fascinated with the underground hip-hop circle. GT daily routine consisted of listening to a late night uncut radio rap programs. This is when GT realized that hip-hop was his life ambition.
By the time GT arrived in Detroit to attend High School, GT began to take the ideal as a rap artist very serious. Booking studio times and studying the art of hip hop focusing on creative lyrics, style, and catchy choruses.
While at Michigan State University, GT often sacrificed his academic responsibilities. GT drove 75 miles five time a week from Lansing to Detroit to take part in local Detroit open mics at the historical Shelter (seen in the movie 8mile), and other venues around Detroit to showcase his skills and stage presence. This is when GT realized he had a God given gift, receiving accolades from his peers, some of which are now platinum selling artists and producers from Detroit.
GT has set his focus on taking rap to a higher level by making hit songs that will later become classics. GT wants the hip-hop community and the rap artists he’s influenced by to respect him as both a person and a rap artist. GT hope to someday influence up and coming artists the way he was. GT also plans to use hip-hop as a way to help others creating opportunities for those less fortunate.
