"I was hooked on first listening, here's a Cd that grabs you from the first track and doesn’t let go until the last. Every song is a treat, well written and masterfully executed! It reminded me of the first time I heard Surfing With The Alien, it was just plain cool!"
B Cosworth....radio personality.
In the summer of 2009 Williams was asked to compose a modern version of 'La Donna E Mobile' for an independent movie being shot in Montreal starring internet model Jenny Poussin. The recording went so well that Williams was inspired to continue writing.
What began as a one shot recording, turned into a full recording session over the summer and the result was this jaw dropping display of guitar.
The song writing and technical skill are only matched by the true emotional expression found in each song. The upbeat tempo's are groovy and solid. This is the kind of Cd you throw in while cruising the highway. You get lost in the music and many times find yourself pushing the speed limit as Williams' display of guitar pyrotechnics captures your soul and ignites it.
The title track "Relentless" is the perfect combination of Rock meets Latin groove, acoustic speed picking meets overdriven lead guitar solo. Its fast, its furious and more importantly it’s just too damn cool! This is the kind of song every disciple of instrumental rock guitar wants to write...Williams does it with 100% success! And this is just the start!
Track 2 "Airstrike" picks up where the first song left off and throws the throttle down! If TOP GUN made a sequel this would be the sound track!
Song 3 and 4 "Love Song / Gods Groove" - The nylon string classical guitar piece is the perfect intro for " God's Groove". A Carlos Santana inspired track that brings a fresh, inspired feel to the Latin lead guitar song. The perfect tone meets slick groovy licks...with just the right touch of nylon string speed picking and a dash of horn section to top it off....Fantastic track!!!
Song 5 "Almost Home"... It’s like driving a pickup truck down a country road on the perfect summer day. Another side of this incredible musician’s talent. Fusing countryish licks and feel with just a bit of rock 'n'roll. This song is a real treat!
Song 6 "Get Off The Dang Roof"...this could be my favourite track! It starts off with a furious acoustic guitar lick that sets the speed and tone right off the bat...this is gonna KICK! The distorted guitars fade in and it’s off to the races with one of the funnest, coolest, most inspired guitar songs I’ve heard in Years!!!! If this song doesn't win an award for best instrumental it’s a crime...without a doubt this song fires it up to a whole new level...lookout kids here’s a song you're gonna have to learn! And did I mention Williams learned how to play the Banjo for this one, something he admits "Is way harder than it looks!"
Song 7 "The Temple Of Set"... Just when you think you've got Williams all figured out he throws you a curve ball with this moody, astral plane journey into the dark heart of the human soul. This stand out track is earth shattering!!!
Song 8 "Sailing Away" ... The track that most pick as the best song on the disk. This easy listening track that starts with the sounds of the ocean is one of the most beautiful pieces of guitar work I’ve heard in many years. The Acoustic guitars here are smooth and perfect. The lead guitars almost speak to the listener in a musical voice that is as touching as it is inspiring. It’s no wonder that this track was chosen by Kiana Tom ( Kiana's Flex Appeal ) for use in her television programs and promotional video. An Absolutely beautiful song!
Song 9 " A Spanish Romance" ... Described by Williams as something simple, fast and fun to play. This speed picking, acoustic track may be the most stripped down of all the songs but it still somehow delivers with heart pounding flash! It makes you want to put down your electric guitars and shut off your amps. It harkens back to the days of Al Di Meola and makes you ask the question, is there anything this guy can’t play?
Song 10 La Donna E Mobile ... Originally composed by Giuseppe Verdi in 1851, Williams creates a fresh arrangement and embellishes this classical masterpiece with modern day flash guitar. This is where the Cd all began. Rockin!
Song 11 "Lost" ... The intro piece to the complete song "Lost And The Undiscovered Soul" from the Cd 'Blackened". This song is the first time Williams ever played the piano. He became inspired to write a piano piece but didn’t know anyone at the time who would play it. So, sitting for a few hours in his studio he taught himself how to play this one song. He hit record and this is the result. A song that is beautiful and haunting and according to Williams one of his favourites because, " Simply put, I cannot play the piano...I have no idea how I did this."
Song 12 " North Shore Samurai" .... If you can’t hear Satch in this one you're not a fan of surfer groove guitar! Just when you think the Cd has mellowed out Williams hits you with this outro piece...flashy, cool, groovy and smokin'...the perfect way to end a jaw dropping Cd. Makes you want to hit play again and again and again! This is exactly the kind of song that made Williams and millions of others a fan of instrumental rock guitar.
The sound, the groove, the skill and the emotion..All of it adds up to one thing... One of the most fantastic instrumental Rock Guitar Cd's ever! Get this Disk!!!
