If you're expecting “Off The Hook Taiwanese Opera” to sound similar to the traditional “Taiwanese Opera” you're used to hearing, then this album will come as a shock to you. If you think “Off The Hook Taiwanese Opera” is something that's rebellious and critical towards this age, then you will find this
This is not only an experiment, which has never been attempted before, but also stands as an example of world class music quality. While listening, you will realized that “Taiwanese Opera” can be so “Off The Hook” in modern music form.
It contains tons of surprises throughout the entire album. Each song has been tested and fine-tuned over several months of studio production. Producer GTS insists this album is not only an experiment, but also a legend that can be passed on for ages.
Background of producer GTS:
GTS graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Major in Contemporary Writing and Music Production. The founder of Major Music Production House in Taiwan, he has worked with several prominent artists in Taiwan. Some of his works have been noticed and published in Europe.
The main point of this album is to breathe new life into Taiwanese traditional music. The “Taiwanese Opera” is the most original music from Taiwan besides “Taiwanese Tribal Music”. However, not every young person knows how to speak it, GTS being one of them. As a child, when he wanted to watch TV, he often had to watch the Taiwanese Opera channel with his Grandma, who only speaks Taiwanese. After growing up and studying classical music, his ears grew accustomed to Western sound, and soon forgot all about the Taiwanese Opera from his childhood. One day, he chanced upon a Taiwanese Opera street performance and was shocked by its unique sound. After a complete education in Western music study, he realized this is a treasure that hasn't yet been revealed to the world, and here it is right in the street!
Chun-Mei Taiwanese Opera Troupe
Chun-Mei Taiwanese Opera Troupe was established by young star of Taiwanese opera Kuo Chun-Mei in 2000. The members are young and have equal talent. Children have also been trained to perform children’s roles in operas, making very effort to pass on culture to the young. The troupe performs mainly at folk and temple festivals around Taiwan, in the day performing gucexi opera and in the evening performing hupiezhaixi opera. The troupe’s unique style comes from adding traditional reading--singing to hupiezhaixi opera. With “unbridled imagination” special art features and innovative daring topics, the troupe has given Taiwanese opera much new creative space and given the troupe its own style and tone.

Unexpected Experimentation
author: Aaron
I am a student of Chinese in Taiwan. Having lived here for three months already, i haven't seen too much in the way of Music that has impressed me until now. What i thought would be droning Lull of an album, the stupor never came. Each track interesting and honed in it's sound and the seeming contrasts of traditional Chinese Opera and tech/lounge actually compliment each other so well that it sounds like they were developed at the same time. I haven't yet, but i'm going to buy this album.
