The thing that any music lover listens for in jazz,it seems to me,is for the kind of music that moves one to return again to hear it.
Not all music does this.not all pianists, for instance,no matter how great their technique nor how complex their melodic and harmonic ideas nor how adventuresome their concepts, can produce this kind of jazz. it is a special gift and it is no respecter of academies,of persons or of reputations.
Vince Guaraldi can move me playing the piano. I have found this to be true over many years and even after the hundreds of times i have heard cast your fate to the wind that uniquely individual sound can still move me.

I loved this CD and bought another copy to send to my brother, who has every Charlie Brown DVD made.
Thanks!

ONE OF THE GREATS
author: jonaco
Vince Guaraldi was one of the most-heard jazz pianists ever, thanks mostly to his timeless "Peanuts" animated TV scores. This is a new, and great, sampler of that laid-back yet rhythmic "San Francisco" sound that was uniquely his. Of course, it includes the "Linus and Lucy" theme, here a little funkier than on the cartoons, and his other signature tune "Cast Your Fate to the Wind" in two takes (one with a Moog accent). Guaraldi's trademark bright touch and Latin/bossa flavor made him a deserved crossover star, and all these tracks were in the clubby trio mode where he was most comfortable. This is the first in a series of new compilations supervised by Vince's son, who has chosen wisely and well here- you can hear it as clearly as if you're in the room. It's been 30 years since Guaraldi left us, and he's influenced many West Coast jazz players since (notably David Benoit), but he's still the pride of San Francisco jazz. Recommended for "Charlie Brown" fans and lovers of laid-back piano alike.
