Album Notes

"Mambo Sons" - Tom Guerra with singer Scott Lawson If tasty rock is your thing, here's an album for you.

Fueled by Tom Guerra's versatile guitar playing and Scott Lawson's stirring vocals, "Mambo Sons" delivers the goods.

There's also a nice guest appearance by guitar legend Rick Derringer on "It Was You." In some ways, this harkens back to the days before rock became alternative, and a little darker.

"Habits of Mine" has as catchy a hook as you're likely to hear this year, along with two nice guitar solos, including the melodic kind that you don't hear anymore as the song ends.

The soulful "Devil Moon" features an old-style soul guitar intro and a nice solo in the middle.

The wah work in "I Go Wild" helps move the tune along, and "Crazy Girl" has a killer guitar hook that helps propel the '80s-esque rocker and its cool, funny lyric.

"Slipaway" reminds me of Joe Walsh with its cool melody and layered guitars, and "Tomonga Street" is just pure straight-ahead rock at its finest.

If you like no-frills rock played by guys who know it well, this one's for you.

Bought this and the newer cd 'play some rock and roll' and it is just an outstanding peace of work. Will these guys hurry up and release the new cd - was on there website and they are supposedly coming out with the third cd over the summer. If its anything like these two, they deserve a Grammy. They are THAT good!

Rock and roll is NOT dead!

I saw the Mambo Sons live yesterday afternoon in Hartford, after picking up the cd from the website. I am about as jaded as they come, but these guys play like they mean it and do it well. Live they were a bit more energetic and raw, but the cd is well produced with alot of good tunes on it. My favorite tunes are Power of Time and Devil Moon. Can't wait to hear more from these guys.

Bluesy rock that would make the Black Crowes proud

Mambo Sons rocks. "Monkeyfinger" is my favorite song about Scott Weiland of STP. Its been in my player since I got it last month. I bought the cd cause Derringer is on it, but was really surprised at the excellent songs and guitar work by Lawson and Guerra. I hope these guys get to New Haven (CT) at some point soon.
