Heavy Jangletwang music! What is it?

It's songs written with such things as verses, choruses, middle eights, melodies, harmonies, dynamics, sarcasm, double entendre, metaphor, poetic imagery, mood, tone, excitement . . .

About such things as love, hatred, joy, honor, disgruntlement, misanthropy, sadness, happiness, seizing the day, being enveloped by the night, standing up for what you believe in, lying with who you want to, raising hell, and making love . . .

Played on guitars that aren't pointy and that have six strings! Bass grooves played with fingers instead of picks (the way it should be). Drums made of wood that have heads stretched across the top of them and a live man hitting them with sticks. Using Amplifiers from the last century that contain vacuum tubes and heat up and distort when you turn them up loud.

No rapping, talking or whispering! It is sung by men wearing sharkskin jackets who sing with their voices in tight harmonies, with great melodies over the roar of the Heavy Jangletwang juggernaut that is . . .

Gutter Swans

Actual Rock 'N' Roll played by guys who have spent their lives loving, playing and listening to the real stuff. Great hooks, cool bass lines, awesome slide work.

great straight-ahead no-bullshit rock-n-roll record!

When I get in the mood for some great rock-n-roll, well written and well played, I jam out to Gutter Swans' CD, Foolishness Meets Vision. The most obvious comparison I could make would be The Old 97's, but there's also traces of Walter Clevenger and The Dairy Kings, The Georgia Satellites, Del Lords, etc. You get the idea -- straight-ahead American rock. What used to be called (is it still?) bar-band r-n-r. Gnashville calls it 'Heavy Jangletwang music.' Hey, that works! I love some of the (surprising?) subtleties in the songs, like "Hearing Voices." You'll recognize some strong opinions on "I Can Go On" (GREAT chorus!) Then there's the no-subtlety of "All Over You." Cool stuff, and if you don't have a copy yet, what are you waiting for?

The CD offered a diverse range of music - you could understand the lyrics and the music was very well done - the harmony could be heard easily in many songs and we think it should be a hit!!!
