Gloria L. Velásquez is an internationally acclaimed author who holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University in Latin American and Chicano Literatures. Velásquez is the author of two collections of poetry, I Used to Be a Superwoman and Xicana on the Run. Her poetry has been widely anthologized alongside some of Latin America's most famous female writers, and she has received many honors for her writings and achievements. The Superwoman Chicana CD includes original songs and poetry written and performed by the author. it includes her classic internationally published poems, "Superwoman," "Black Shoes," and "Edúcate." This CD also includes Velásquez's popular ballad, "Son in Vietnam," which appeared in the PBS Documentary, Soldados in Vietnam.
