..."The compilation, Thread & Stone, gives a sense of the duo's history. It's mostly instrumentals, fronted by [Scott] Helland's acoustic guitars, and backed by [Samantha] Stephenson on various hand-percussion instruments. Helland, a very nimble guitarist, also adds bass, electric guitars, drums, and various special effects to fill out the sound. They build their pieces on Celtic, Gypsy, and medieval roots, overlaid with a bit of mist and mysticism and a bit of trance. The pieces are all tuneful and original, refreshingly simple, yet pleasingly textured as well. As a bonus, they've added new versions of two of the tunes. " Tall Tales from the Tavern" and "Ogre Dance," which include new wordless vocals that sound a bit like the Muppets. In all, a fun disc!!
