Album Notes

Now and then you hear about them - those songwriters from Middle America that seem to pop outta nowhere and turn your head with a catchy tune.

Jennifer Haase (rhymes with classy) is just one of those writers and "Listening Chair" is just one of those collections that makes you stop what you're doing and say "Who IS that??"

The answer is just a girl who transplanted herself from Nebraska to NYC, with Jewel-Meets-Alison Krauss kinda pipes and a songwriting style kinda like Mary Chapin Carpenter.

This is country-tinged folk-pop, with songs about heartbreak, saving the world and a love note from St. Nick. It pouts, it rages, it gets sappy as hell. But don't take our word for it. Have a seat and push play, won't you?

Produced by Steve Hanson, an award-winning Nebraska based musician, whose infamous banjo pickin' can be heard in the first few moments of that truckin' 70's film "Convoy."

Here's what some industry folks have to say....

"...it is the sense of melody combined with her evocative voice that really makes this a standout release." (Tom May, River City Folk)

"Jennifer is someone you could listen to for hours and beg for more when she's done. Highly Recommended." (Songwriter's Monthly)

"Introspective, lite guitar and big idea music from a voice that Can Sing." (Ben Ohmart, www.themusesmuse.com)

"A brilliant, wonderful cd." (Words that appear on this page that Derek Sivers from www.cdbaby.com added and we didn't. Really...it's the truth. Thank you, Derek!)

And also worth mentioning....

HEAT RISIN' FROM THE #109 won 3rd Place in the Americana catagory of Just Plain Folks Music Awards 2001. Please check out this incredible website and organization for indie artists at www.jpfolks.com.

LISTENING CHAIR (title track) won a semi-finalist song contest placing at www.songlounge.com, October 2002.

LISTEN FOR MY MANDOLIN won an Honorable Mention in the Children's catagory of the 2002 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Ripples on water, caramel slowly dripping off the spoon, freshly fallen snow. These are the things I picture while listening to Jennifer's voice. Well-rounded and powerful - her voice will force you to slow it down and take it in...one beautiful song at a time. Looking forward to her next album!

There is not a song on this CD that I don't absolutely love! I listen to it while I'm walking to work everyday and it completely refills my spirit! It is my "go to" CD when I'm feeling a little blue and when I need to completely focus on a task at hand. I crank it up at the end of the day after everyone is gone from the office and Jennifer hangs out with me while I finish up my work. I love it!! You really do get hooked after the first listen. I heard my 10 year old nephew singing "Heat Risin' from the 109" to himself the other day. It wasn't on, he was just playing with his cars and I heard him in there singing! I loved it!!

These tightly-woven, heart-warming stories grab you at first listen, and beg to be played again and again.

As the title implies, you'd best sit down and listen. Classy Haase with the sassy chassis has crafted a sumptuous stew of folk both edgy and delicate, with a beguiling innocence AND a slinky sexiness. Who the hell is this gal? When is she coming to my town? The propulsive rhythms of the title track canter along until you find yourself at the edge of the fathomless depths of gem Blue Day Dawning. And it's rare that a Christmas song holds up when the Yuletide recedes, but Dear Mrs. Claus is that song. So if you're not in a position to book her, to sign her or to give her a bunch of cash so that she doesn't have to work 9-to-5 anymore, then for the love of god, plunk down a ten-spot and prepare yourself for a helluva deal.
