Modir's seventh and final release befittingly frees his cross-cultural concepts by including tenor saxophone with Andalucian artists from Granada, Spain, playing tunes by Monk, Mingus, and Coltrane, within swinging flamenco forms.

Album Notes

Over the last three decades, tenor saxophonist/theorist Hafez Modir's Persian traditional and American Jazz heritages have sycretized into an original cross-cultural approach he terms "chromodal". Bemsha Alegria is the result of extended time Modir spent on a Fulbright in Andalucia, Spain, collaborating with both traditional and jazz flamencos, as well as travelling and playing with musicians from Morocco, India, Egypt, and Iran. The results reveal a philosophy of sound and self-realization which draw upon the cryptic in ancestral memory.
