Hafez Modir (a.k.a Modirzadeh) is a tenor saxophonist and composer/theorist whose \"chromodal\" concept has resulted in a highly original approach to all realms of creative music, including jazz, improvised, and world music genres. Since 1983, Modirzadeh\'s work has personally crossed with the likes of Peter Apfelbaum, Anthony Braxton, Anthony Brown, Don Cherry, Ornette Coleman, Kenny Endo, Joe Henderson, Fred Ho, Zakir Hussein, Mark Izu, Danny Kalanduyan, Steve Lacy, Oliver Lake, James Newton, George Russell, Leo Smith, Omar Sosa, Akira Tana, Francis Wong, Mahmoud and Ramin Zoufonoun, among others. As professor of Music at San Francisco State University, since 1998, Dr. Modirzadeh\'s research has included specific intercultural collaboration with musicians from Spain, Morocco, Egypt, India, Iran, Turkey, Mindanao, China, Japan, and Cuba.
