Imagine a female John Mayer with the folk flavor of Sarah McLachlan, a taste of Sara Bareilles, and a pop rush of Michelle Branch. Singer-songwriter Haley Dreis is capturing these influences into carefully crafted pop songs in her debut release, "Beautiful To Me" (2009).
The album, currently available on CDBaby.com, will hit iTunes and other digital distributors early August. 10% of the physical album proceeds will go to the Sierra Club and the North Carolina School of the Arts, her alma mater, to promote and benefit environmental conservation and arts education.
Hailing from the Columbia, SC music scene, Haley is sinking her teeth into new musical ambitions. As a conservatory trained classical violinist, her musical knowledge and interest in a range of styles an genres have inspired an interest in songwriting.
Haley was most recently awarded $2.675 as a 4th place winner on Yobi.Tv, an online singing and songwriting contest. She was also a top 10 finalist in the 2009 USC Idol competition.
She is influenced by the raw power of indie artists like Damien Rice and Iron & Wine, the folk flavor of Sara McLachlan and Jewel, the soulful elements of Sara Bareilles and John Mayer, and the pop accessibility of Jason Mraz and Michelle Branch.
"Beautiful To Me" breathes organic power and universal appeal, which lend something for everyone. The simplicity and substance in her songwriting bring something compelling and fresh to the scene.
Haley is currently a student at the University of South Carolina studying music and journalism.
