The Half Moon Jug Band is a relentless acoustic ensemble dedicated to plastering a smile on the face of everyone they come in contact with. They are a notorious presence on the streets of Portland, Maine where they have been entertaining passersby and annoying shopkeepers for 11 years with their infectious sense of humor and fine playing.
Despite their recent forays into the studio and onto the concert stage, they're still loyal to their first love: Exchange Street in Portland. They can still be heard (from several blocks away) whooping it up for audiences of shoppers, disaffected street youths and transients from April till Christmas Eve.

Breackin' through the barriers

Often acoustic oriented music has this kind of "seems fare away". Well, here's something else. Really comming through, almost agressive, punching the listener right in the face. Cathy tunes in snappy up-tempo and steady going medium with a drive you can't miss. And it's funny too, with a ticklin' good-time feel. It´s really great stuff. I was very pleased to find one of my favorite tunes, "The Cat Came Back", in one of the best versions I've ever heard of it on the album. But it's just one among a collection of fine songs. As The Half Moon Jug band sings: "The world doesn't need another sad love song". So instead they give you a lot of swingin', laughin', jumpin', beatin', rockin', skifflin' folk/jazz, with a power and energy that makes it tempting to call it "hardcore jug music".
