Pianist Hank Troy began playing for silent films in 1971 in Denver, Colorado. With years of piano lessons behind him, he brought to this new endeavor a background in the classics, ragtime, pop and jazz. He developed a largely improvisational style which is featured on this album.
"Never Really Silent" offers edited versions of his accompaniment for four silent films shown at Colorado Chautauqua auditorium during the summer of 2003. Each film actually runs about 1 1/2 hours -- so what you hear on this CD is about an hour of music -- 15 minutes distilled from each of those films.
Audiences at Chautauqua, located in the foothills west of Boulder, Colorado, are transported back into time when they enter the 100+ year old auditorium. They are then transported back to the 'teens and '20s when they come for silent film night.
Hank Troy's film accompaniments and introductions to the films have been a regular feature of Chautauqua's summer schedule for over 30 years. A loyal audience of regulars plus many summer visitors enjoy this delightful experience of wonderful film and live music.
"Never Really Silent" takes you on a musical journey into your own imagination. You will hear music for delightful waltzes, furious chases, antic comedy and gripping drama. Order yours today!
