Album Notes

Born and raised in Nimbin, the alternative lifestyle capital of Australia, Hannah Pearl is the newest rising star to emerge from the north coast of NSW, Australia.

Influenced by Ani DiFranco, Madonna, Stevie Nicks and Fiona Apple, her sound is as vivid and diverse as her upbringing, ranging with eloquent ease from angsty girl rock to melodic pop. She sings about the effects of love, sex, violence and the turmoils of the 21st century on your average second generation hippie love-child.

As an outspoken and inappropriately honest teen, Hannah first found a focus for her unruly talents fronting the all-girl Lismore band Slippery whilst she was studying dance.

"All of a sudden I went from writing poetry to writing songs. It was a revelation. Here was a medium whereby I could express my opinions, perform my ass off and sing myself to sleep... music became my therapy and my dearest love."

Slippery soon became very popular in their local area, gigging almost constantly and winning a great many fans with their eclectic blend of acoustic pop, rock and soul. The year 2000 saw them record their debut EP, win a place at the Woodford Folk Festival and feature on the ABC's The 10.30 Slot.

Since Slippery dissolved in 2001 Hannah has been hard at work honing her vocal skills and building up the inner core of strength necessary to survive solo in the music industry.

In 2005 she recorded her debut solo album. The result is a compelling blend of clever lyricism, sultry vocals and catchy pop hooks that will infiltrate your mind and find you humming along in the shower.

When I first heard this album I thought it was nice.... but then I listened more and became addicted... the singer has such a beautiful, fresh voice and a simple yet heartfelt delivery that lingers. These songs get stuck in my head and I cant get them out...
