Aliyah is a Hebrew word that literally means "going up". It has connotations of going home, or going to Israel. I feel like this CD is a bit of an aliyah for me -- it's going back to my roots by addressing traditional Jewish prayers, stories, and concepts -- but it's "going up" by taking these ideas and making them my own, both conceptually and musically. I hope some of this speaks to you, and that you enjoy the songs!
