Hard Knox plays hard driving bluegrass with the discipline of the tradition while creating a new sound of ther own. They sing around a single mic to create a warm and high energy sound. In the band are banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass and resophonic guitar. On the CD you'll find three original cuts. One original is an instrumental called "Knox Breakdown" and was first formulated in the back of an RV on the way to a bluegrass show. Other originals written by Chris Rose and Joe Mastrangelo are "Last Twenty Dollars" and "School Of Hard Knox."
Anther cut on the CD includes a twist on an old Sam Cooke favorite titled, "Stand By Me," sung by Bob Burrows. Hard Knox won the 2001 Virginia State Bluegrass Band Championship at Chesterfield County Fairgrounds and included on the CD one of their winning songs, "Steel Rails." Other cuts are: Using My Bible, Gravel Yard, Standin' In The Need of Prayer, Blueridge Mountain Girl, Sittin' On Top Of The World, Wait A Minute and I'm Blue-I'm Lonesome.
Band members are: Bob Burrows (resophonic guitar and vocals), Joe Epps (mandolin and vocals), Johnny Knox (rhythm guitar), Joe Mastrangelo (banjo and vocals), Chris Rose (lead guitar and vocals) and Charlie Scudder (bass). The band sure does have fun at their shows---CATCH THEM at a show near you soon! See them on their web site at http://www.hardknoxband.com
