Album Notes

Harriet Frost brings a commanding voice and a distinctive melodic sensibility to music that is rooted in the folk rock tradition, inviting shades of gypsy jazz and pop underpinnings into the mix.
Her compelling vocal character makes this music asscessible and current. The songwriting influences of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell can be felt. It is in the spaces between the lines that her unique voice invites us into an intimate connection with her stories.
At once provocative and resonant with an inner knowing, Frost's music explores political landscapes, personal dreamscapes and life's panoply of disappointments and joys.
“Random Days”
In this lyric and evocative collection, Harriet Frost summons some of the most urgent questions of the spirit. What matters? What is true?
In the gritty late night of a couple's conflict...on the wind-swept dunes of the Middle East...in a private moment that holds both gratitude and grief, Frost conjures reckonings both personal and universal. Her music burrows inward, summoning a confrontation with self, with others, with history, but first and foremost with love.
If the songs both soothe and startle us, it is because they manage to at once traverse and strip away the layers of moments and experience wrapped around the deeper questions propelling us.
Like conversations overheard, their meaning gathers, finds us, invites us in.
A keen observer and raconteur, Frost crafts her lyrics with the precision of a poet. Her warm and self-assured voice, and effortless phrasing, turn the listener into a treasured confidante.

Eight of the 11 selections are her own compositions. Amoung them the joyous exultation of the collection’s title track “Random Days” the edgy “Marusa “, the deeply personal “Dreamchild “   ballads that are held together musically through excellent production and the bold instrumentation of longtime collaborator-producer, guitarist Jim Woodyard.
Alongside her original songs she surprises us (opening with a lick reminiscent of Bill Withers' “Use Me”) with a heart-stopping interpretation of Murray Head's “Never Even Thought”. Frost gives a wonderfully nuanced interpretation of the Mark Knopfler gem “Romeo and Juliet” while an homage to the George Harrison modern classic “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is safe in her hands. She inhabits these songs with passion and respect, interpreting  them with the same  compassion and  intelligence present in her own work.

Harriet’s musical journey began in Montreal Canada, where she wrote and performed throughout her highschool and college years, then  moved to the the Middle East where she performed with many international artists. She was the founding Musical Director for the ground breaking Israeli theatre troupe “The Gypsies”. This troupe of Israelis, Palestinians and North Americans put on original musicals to promote peace in Arab and Israeli communities.
She  returned to North America with a strong vision for herself and her music. Vancouver has been home, where raising a family, Frost has continued to write and perform her eclectic blend of folk inspired music.Harriet’s music has been featured on the CBC’s  “The Afternoon Show”  “Definitely  Not The Opera” Radio Stations “CITR” and CKNW and on College Radio stations across Canada.
She  has been a  frequent  performer with “Just Singing Round” a showcase of Vancouver Singer Songwriters that donate all their proceeds to local charities.......
