HARRIET SCHOCK
Award-Winning Songwriter, Performer, Teacher & Author
Harriet Schock is a gold and platinum songwriter with six successful solo CDs to her credit. She has been voted twice as the "Best New Female Artist" by Cashbox magazine, received a Dramalog Award for her live show and has a long line of TV& film credits to her name. Her early Grammy nominated song, "Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady" led to wonderful publishing opportunities which developed into having her songs being covered by artists such as, Smokey Robinson, Roberta Flack, Helen Reddy, & Johnny Mathis, just name a few.
Her book, BECOMING REMARKABLE is used in her work as a songwriting consultant and teacher. Schock remarks, "I remember when I was in seventh grade and we were given the option of writing a poem instead of the usual composition. To me this was like being given the choice between eating cherry pie or liver." She received an "A" on that early project and since she had been playing the piano by ear since she was four, it was natural that she start writing melodies and putting them to words. Harriet teaches group, private and by-correspondence sessions that inspire, encourage and inform the creator on how to truthfully create a concept that will flourish into a powerful message through lyric, melody and chords. Her simple, direct communication skills have been featured at colleges, Songwriting Associations and Music Business Panels all over the US.
When speaking of Harriet's songs and live performances, Alda Paveltich from the internet publication girlmusicians.com puts it best by saying... "the difference between Harriet and the storyteller singer-songwriter, is that others sing short stories, poems, & ballads where we may see tableaux, landscapes, noirs, while Harriet Schock's songs are like little movies." While great artists have recorded her music, there is something magical that happens when the parent of those great songs performs them for an audience. Schock not only gives us her deepest self, but also she interjects stories creating one continuous experience. Harriet herself believes in revealing a story in a way that will move people to want to share your art, while all along seeing themselves through the musical expression.
Harriet Schock continues to perform her music live, has BECOME REMARKABLE by sharing her expertise through teaching, really adores working with film scorers to help shape a melody while writing the lyrics, and really gets down to business by working one- on-one with rising songwriters. She is definitely a "people-person" in every sense of the word...a "must see" artist of the new millennium.
