Album Notes

“... a seamless combination of acoustic guitar riffs and staggering adagio harmonizing."
- Bridget Budbill, The Stanwood-Camano News

Steve Harris & Friends play well-crafted original folk-rock pop country jazz tunes with big fat harmonies and sometimes a ukulele. Steve Harris sings and plays guitar, Mark Dodge sings and plays guitar, bass, ukulele, harmonica and marimba, Wende Hilyard sings sweetly and adds percussion, and the redoubtable Thomas Kemper keeps all four limbs moving at all times on drums & percussion.

About the CD "Here on Island Time:

Images that come to mind: breathtaking island sunsets, calm water, bald eagles chasing the wind, ever-changing colors and sounds …a special, magical place where neighbors ring out ship bells to let everyone know that "thar' be whales." Here on Island Time is a collection of tunes recorded 'live' in the studio to capture the sound and energy of the live performances that we love to share.

This is the second disk from Steve (and Mark), but it’s the first for the SH&F band. Those of you who have the first CD, Northwestern Sky (also available here on CD Baby), and have heard the band live already know that the band sounds very different than the first CD, which was largely a work of studio magic. Steve recorded his songs and then Mark added all the other instruments (with a little help from Tim Miller on sax and Wende Hilyard on vocals). The new CD really does sound like us; "studio magic" not required this time (not much anyway). These are good songs, performed well!

Tasteful, powerful, and relaxed: That's the Steve Harris & Friends' way
author: John Book, Music For America

For more down home music, one only has to look as far as Camano Island, Washington to take a listen to Steve Harris & Friends. Here On Island Time (Big Quack) is a title I can appreciate, for anyone who has ever been raised on an island knows that things move on its own leisurely pace. The music represents that pace beautifully, with folk, country, and a bit of blues and rock every now and then, along with the 'ukulele to play melodies that honor one island from another. As for the rock they play, it's more country rock, and they do it tastefully. It makes you want to travel their way and be able to experience the world from their point of view,, maybe jam throughout the night on songs unknown. Another example of the great music the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Musically Complex Folksy Storytelling
author: Bridget Budbill - The Stanwood Camano News

“On Island Time” ... features the musical complexities symptomatic of the original Fleetwood Mac, combined with the folksy storytelling of Willie Nelson and Joni Mitchell, all done with lyrics kindred to the heart and humor of Randy Newman.

A different sound for Steve .. I like it!

I've known Steve's music since the mid-1980's and watched it evolve into what it is today. This album has a very different tone than previous works but adds polish and clarity. Here On Island Time (the song) is one of my favorites and it paints what I believe is THE PICTURE Steve was going for. Well done!

Island Time captures the Island Attitude

Here on Island Time captures the Camano Island attitude: laid back, creative, fun, friendly, spunky, carefree and unique. No time like Island time.
