Album Notes

“Bodine is an original, who first draws on the best of his myriad of musical influences and then stamps his own individual style on the songs, There is not a weak track on this superb album and the conversationalist narrative style and moody slide guitar constantly grab your attention"..................Blues Matters Issue 40 Oct/Nov 07

“Drivin' Up Thru Memphis is the ultimate highway song and can be easily put in the row of classic Memphis songs among which Memphis In The Meantime, Walking In Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee... Think John Hiatt with Sonny Landreth on slide.
Why this magnificent CD is self-released and is not released with one of the better labels in the genre is a mystery to me.”……………. MAZZ MUSIKAS August 2007/ Belgium

“Formerly a member of Delta Roux, Austin singer and slide guitarist Harry Bodine gloriously displays his terrific grasp of roots styles on the self released “Which Way Home”. With uniformly excellent song craft, singing, and playing, Bodine has created a daring new album in the often-stagnant Americana genre.”………………………….......
Blues Revue……………………………….....................June/July 2007

“What Bodine seems to understand so many others miss; that often less is more. While Bodine fills the audio spectrum with plenty of interesting bits and pieces, gone are the wailing guitars and over-bearing vocals. Tasty. Pure. Delicious. Harry Bodine’s album, “Which Way Home,” could be an exciting find for those that love a really good song presented by high-class players with a bent toward underplaying and subtle nuisances. This is far from a blues album but relies heavily on the sounds and themes that blues fans will quickly recognize and appreciate.”…………………………..Rick Galusha - Blueswax- 2007

"Damn, another Diamond in da rough...Thank you for the product and I will get with ya soon to do a interview and showcase you on KVNF. What a Groove Blood! Damn, let me tell ya who I hear...Tom Waits, Chris Rea, Sonny Landreth...I hear Harry Bodine...Yep, you be what I call Bad Ass! I am so glad your on this Groove Train". ……………………………….................KNVF Radio..Colorado/Jabeaux

To me, it's one of the best discs I have heard in quite some time; great originality, really fine tunes!………………………………..................Brett Fleming ……WEVL Memphis

The CD was recorded at the infamous Arlyn Studios and Wire Studios in Austin, Texas and was mixed by acclaimed engineer Stuart Sullivan (Sublime, Robert Plant, Jimmy Vaughn, etc.) at Wire Recording. The CD was engineered by Jacob Sciba and Harry Bodine. Jacob also worked on Gov't Mule's latest CD, "High and Mighty".

Harry spent five years as the principal songwriter and guitarist for the Austin based band, Delta Roux in which he founded in 1999. The band shared stages with the likes of Aaron Neville, Leon Russell, Delbert McClinton, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds.

German based Taxim Records released two Delta Roux CDs, “Bad Wind Blowin” and “Only A Fool“. Music critic Jorg Gulden of Germany's Rolling Stone magazine included Delta Roux's CD “Bad Wind Blowin” in his picks for the ten best releases of 2000.

Harry's interest in music increased after he dropped out of high school from his hometown in central New York State. He started playing bass guitar the same time his older brother Howard was learning to play the six string.

Howard taught Harry the Blind Lemon Jefferson song “Easy Rider Blues” after which he was hooked on the blues and switched from bass to guitar. Harry's passion for slide guitar was inspired by Duane Allman's work on the Allman Brothers' “Fillmore East” album and the Derek and the Dominos' Layla album.

At seventeen, Harry hitchhiked across the U.S. with his guitar and was exposed to a variety of music and musicians. He learned fingerpicking from a banjo player, country gospel from truck drivers and blues tunes from street musicians. He started his professional career playing in blues, R & B, and rock bands around Ithaca, N.Y. After a few years, he got the itch to hit the road again and headed to Austin, TX a place he had visited in his earlier travels and currently lives.

Thursday night Casbeers will feature the return of slide guitar man Harry Bodine. From Austin by way of New York, Bodine made waves in the blues world while working with the band Delta Roux. A searing slide man, Bodine also is a fine songwriter. Listen for Bodine's band to do a heady mixture of cool lyrics and hot licks.

Harry Bodine isn't exactly a household name - not even a name much known to google! This album is five years old and it's hard to believe that it has stayed below the radar so completely, because it is a great album. If you like Sonny Landreth, John Hiatt, Chris Smither, John Mooney, Roy Rogers and the like, then you will love this accomplished and consistent collection. Where is the man now?

Anyone familiar with the Stax Records studio sound out of Memphis is going to love this CD. A wonderful mix of a wide variety of influences: soul, gospel, R&B, and some downright pure blues. Harry is a very talented slide and dobro player, and listening to "Peace Tree Blues" is about as pure as it gets. He will be appearing soon at live gigs in the Austin area, and I would highly recommend all to go see this very talented artist.
