Recorded when he was 17 years old, Far Yet Near is the first album by composer and pianist Harry Whitney. This inspired collaboration with Cory Combs, Harry’s teacher for four years, and Matt Aiken, led to a personal and original album of free jazz.
Consisting of 7 original compositions by Whitney and 5 group improvisations, Far Yet Near explores spacious playing, bringing the music to life by letting it breathe as much as possible. Space is used to create a vast and complex musical landscape. Compositional playing is a driving concept behind this album in that the music undergoes large-scale development and shifts to define its structure and form.
The tracks on this album flow together, and by the culmination the listener has sense of completion. There is warmth underlying Far Yet Near, communicating a closeness and hopeful tone that one can relate to.
Released in Spring 2007 on Evander Music (EM 047).

Harry has a wonderful gift of expression through music. I love this CD. I am a jazz fan of many decades and love the feeling tones and professional delivery of this music.
It is possible to have a glimpse into the souls of the three artists by sitting back and letting the wonderful music speak. I think this is the goal of most musicians and this CD moves well toward this goal
