Hartley Goldstein is a Jew. Thanks for asking. He's also a 24 year old NYC-native; reared on the Yoko Ono-inhabiting streets of Manhattan's Upper West Side. From time to time Hartley writes music reviews. However, most of his days Hartley is busy crafting intelligent pop songs that could not be described as either "hushed," or "confessional." On Sunday mornings, Hartley is known to listen to records by Harry Nillsson, The Shins, Jonathan Richman, Belle and Sebastian, The DB's, Elliott Smith, The New Pornographers, and The Kinks. He may or may not sound like any of these people.
Hartley's debut 4-track EP is titled, "Songs In The Key of Zoloft." Naturally, it was recorded in Brooklyn, NY at the famed Fireproof Studios. The amazing Adam Lasus (Yo La Tengo, Clem Snide, Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah!) handled the production duties. One time Adam dubbed Hartley, "The David Sedaris of Indie-Rock." This made Hartley smile. Session vets like Joe McGinty (Devendra Banhart, Ryan Adams) and people from "seminal bands" (J.P. Jones of the Lynnfield Pioneers) also helped make recording the EP a pleasant experience. Enjoy.
