Music from the heart
author: Nhan Thai
This cd is a musician's treasure. Tran Tien, known for his honest and personal lyrics. But never before disclosed a different part of himself through his lyrics in Pho Nui, Mot Minh, and Doc Huyen Cam. As a listener, I felt a sense of ultimate vulnerability from the artist. Putting everything out there for the world to examine and judge. I didn't expect any less from Tran Tien's niece, female vocalist, artist, and producer Ha Tran (Tran Thu Ha). Complete talent and artistry at her best. The music in this cd alone is incredible. Musical director for this CD is Thanh Phuong, did an incredible job of mixing different instruments, creating such a complex and intelligent musical experience. Track number 5, a medley of Tran Tien's oldies, mixed in with Viet Nam northern folk song, Cay Truc Xinh, was smart, added layers and meaning to the medley. My favorite is track 12, Vat Doi Sao Doi. In my opinion, the song speaks to the spirit of Tran Tien's music, and particulary to this cd. It describes a generation experiencing changes,Viet Nam as a country through war(s), social changes, and changes in lives.
