This instrumental album is the culmination of a twenty year journey exploring the beauty and serenity of the Native American flute. Ambient and deeply meditative, the music shared on this CD represents Hawk's next step in his musical apprenticeship with the flute. Blending peaceful, healing melodies with evocative rhythms, it may best be described as contemporary Native American, with a Whole World feel.

Album Notes

Hawk Hurst has been making, playing, and teaching others to create Native American-style flutes and drums for nearly two decades. Originally self-taught, he considers himself very fortunate to have studied with some of the finest flute makers & players across the country. His percussion skills were greatly enhanced under the tutelage of (the late) Master Drummer, Babatunde Olatunji, of the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria, and his good friend, Snowbear Taylor. In addition to his love of music, Hawk is a professional storyteller and naturalist. An eight time recording artist and a published author, he has taught and performed at numerous schools, camps, museums, and festivals across the country. He and his wife, Ayal, currently reside in Charleston, South Carolina, where they own and operate Merhaven Bed no Breakfast. Hawk offers private lessons in both making and playing flutes and drums. Mystic Serenade
author: Bob Linsenmayer
The Native American flute music and quiet percussive accompaniment is gentle and soothing - perfect relaxation music. Every massage therapist should have a copy to play as stress is being massaged away. The music is also ideal for calming nerves after a hard day’s work or for falling asleep at night. In addition, the beautiful sounds would be perfect to play in the background during a dinner with friends or during an evening of romance. Light the candles and put on the CD!

I'm thoroughly enjoying this new CD by Hawk Hurst. It is very relaxing and meditative while also having a mysterious quality that evokes imagery of woods, animals, ceremony and even feels a bit like a movie soundtrack in that way. The pure tones of the flute are both uplifting and calming. Thanks for this gift.

Unique and accessible
author: Mystic Serenade
Hawk Hurst's latest album, Mystic Serenade, is a terrific mix of original and traditional Native American melodies. Hurst makes his own flutes, which gives these tunes a special tonal quality that you won't find anywhere else. The songs evoke the marshes of the South Carolina Lowcountry, the rolling green mountains of North Carolina, and the more austere and bracing climates of the Western deserts. It's a great addition to Hurst's already impressive body of work.
