Album Notes

In February of 2000, Head Phone Over Tone began a sonic experiment. Aiming their amplifiers directly at two piano soundboards, Calvin and Daniel laid the initial 30-minute improvisational track that would eventually evolve into the epic "Solar Sails". Over the course of the next two years, various other tracks (including some guest vocals and other instrumentation) were layered together in a sort of "automatic writing" style, where the band would record without listening to any of the previous tracks, relying on only a leitmotif and its relative key. After a few months of tweaking and refining the cohesion of these layers, and a bit of editing, "Solar Sails" was ready to fly. However, due to poor timing and a limited budget, only a handful of CDRs were produced. These were sold at shows, or given away as promotion in an attempt to find funding for a proper release. Head Phone Over Tone played their last show before the days of Web 2.0, and as such, the album lay dormant for nearly 10 years.
We are thrilled to make this album available for purchase now, a full 12 years after those first notes were played. ...and we hope you enjoy it.
So put your headphones on, sit back, close your eyes, and feel yourself being transported across the cosmos.
